November show and volunteering

posted Oct 28, 2010 10:10 AM by Publicity Circus Open Mic

Welcome to the latest installment of the Circus Open Mic blog!  We just wanted to let you know about a few changes that are afloat at the circus as October winds down.

Did you love our show last month?  So did we!  Circus and vaudeville artists came from all up and down Western Washington to perform with us at our October show, and with a great band, sassy emcee, and more daring circus feats than you could shake a stick at.  We loved all of the performances, from audience-participation clowning to box-walking to Teatro Zinzanni’s own Bernard Hazen and his phenomenal juggling/balancing/acrobatics finale.  Thanks to all of October’s performers for an amazing show!

Our next show is November 10 at 7pm at Hale’s, and you won’t want to miss it.  Performers are lining up to join our show—in fact, our show is almost full, so if you’re a performer and you want to join us, get in touch with Murphy at perform@circusopenmic.com in a hurry.

Lastly, if you thought all it takes to put on a circus is Jeff and some chairs, you’re mistaken!  We have all sorts of volunteer opportunities that we need YOUR help on.  Can you help us scout performers to round out our show each month?  Or maybe you like to sit on the couch in your pajamas and plaster the internet with Circus Open Mic calendar listings?  Perhaps you just want to help sell posters and serve popcorn at our shows.  Whatever it is, we can’t do it without you, so get in touch with volunteer@circusopenmic.com and lend us your talents.

See you on November 10!

September's Show - Wednesday the 8th

posted Aug 26, 2010 4:04 PM by Jeffrey Goetsch   [ updated Aug 26, 2010 4:14 PM ]

Are you ready for another Circus Open Mic?

Well, you better get ready, because it is just 2 weeks until our next show.  We have just finished booking Hale's Palladium, and have lined up the technical staff for another quality show.   We are also getting a very good response on performers, so it will be another interesting show.

Now, it's up to you guys to help fill the Palladium with a great audience.  Mark your calendars: Sept. 8th, Killer Circus Show at Hale's Palladium.  Tell invite all your friends, and help make Septembers show bigger and better then our first show.

See you at the Circus!!

Canceling the August Show

posted Jul 27, 2010 1:59 PM by Jeffrey Goetsch

I'm sorry to say that we are canceling our August show.   We just didn't have enough resources to produce a quality show for August 11th.   We decided that skipping the month of August and putting our resources toward the September 8th show would provide a much more exciting show for both audience  and our performers.

For all you circus addicts out there, we have found another show that we know that you would really enjoy.  The show is part of the Cascade Juggling Festival happening the August 14th weekend, with the Cascade of Jugglers show happening Saturday night August 14th at 8 pm.  The show will take place in Hale's Palladium, the same place as Circus Open Mic.  Even though the name is Cascade of Jugglers, there will be a large variety circus acts, and the MC is one of the best that I have seen: The Checker Board guy.  He is coming all the way down from Canada to be a part of our show, and we guarantee he will make you laugh.

Hope to see you soon,
Jeff

A Note to Circus Goers and Performers

posted Jul 15, 2010 1:01 AM by Michelle Huston

Hi folks... Michelle here. I just wanted to grab the top hat away from Jeff long enough to say, WOW. I am so amazed by tonight's performances! I had no idea the calibre of the acts who would sign up. You blew me away. Thanks to each and every one of you - you are all fantastic and I'm humbled by your willingness to share your talents with us.

But the night wouldn't have been as special as it was without an equally giving audience. You all made me proud to be a Seattle-ite (or Northwesterner, as I know some of you were from out of town). You laughed, you were sooo supportive, you were warm and you were welcoming to new acts as well as established ones. You gave great feedback, and as a lapsed performer, you made me miss the stage. That kind of gift is one I look forward to enjoying in the months to come.

Also, thanks to our wonderful volunteers. You made the evening run so smoothly and made the whole event more relaxing to be a part of. Thank you.

Finally, Jeff, thank you for all the work you put into making this night happen. I hope you agree with me that it was worth it. See you on the 11th!

Circus Open Mic Inaugural Show - TOMORROW!!!

Get your best circus outfit ready, because there's only one day left.  We have a great line up of performers, who ready to dazzle and amaze you.  You will see acts ranging from aerialists to silent comedy skits.  We have jugglers and acrobats, and our youngest performer will do her self-created contortionist routine.

Hale's Palladium will open their doors at 6:30pm for those who have filled out the "Save My Seat" form.  For those who just show up - don't worry, at 6:45 we will open the doors for you.    We will start the show at 7pm and plan to finish up by 10:30, with a small intermission for a quick bathroom break and a refill of one of Hale's great beers.

See you at the Circus!
Jeff

Hale's Palladium Rented

posted Jun 18, 2010 12:55 PM by Jeffrey Goetsch

We just finished signing the paper work for renting the Palladium for the inaugural show.  We are very excited, and leaves just one final hurdle for putting on the show: insurance.  We have been talking with Maque and Tim about possibilities for insurance, so we are confident that we will ready for the show.

We will be responsible for all setup and cleanup, so we will need lots of volunteers.  If you haven't signed up to volunteer, now is the time.  Sign up today!

Meeting with Maque from Moisture Festival

posted May 28, 2010 11:44 AM by Jeffrey Goetsch   [ updated Jun 17, 2010 10:04 PM by Michelle Huston ]

The other day, I had a meeting with another member of the Moisture Festival team, Maque daVis.  He was excited about a space where new performers get stage time to work on their acts.  He felt that this was something that would be a great benefit to the Seattle community, and wanted to know how he could help.

Maque said that he would bring up Circus Open Mic to the Moisture Festival Trustees, if we put together a business proposal.  We have spent the the last couple of days putting together that proposal and have sent it to him.  We hope to hear back about it sometime next week.   We will also be sending a proposal to SANCA.
